Haggai 2:6

“For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land.”

Context:The book of Haggai is one of the minor prophets in the Old Testament. Haggai delivered his prophecies to the remnant of Israelites who had returned from exile in Babylon to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. The people had initially been enthusiastic about rebuilding the temple but had become discouraged and prioritized their own houses and personal concerns instead. “Yet once, it is a little while”:This phrase indicates that something significant is about to happen in the near future. God is assuring the people that His intervention is imminent and will occur very soon. It conveys a sense of expectation and urgency.

“I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land”:Here, God declares His intention to shake not only the physical elements of the world but also the spiritual and political powers. This shaking signifies a great upheaval or disruption that will take place.

• Prioritize God’s work:The Israelites in Haggai’s time had become preoccupied with their own desires and neglected the work of rebuilding the temple. Similarly, we can be easily distracted by the cares and concerns of this world. This verse encourages us to prioritize God’s work and His kingdom above our own pursuits.
