Isaiah 35:6

Listen to this article

“Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.”

Isaiah 35:6 (KJV) says: “Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.”

Context:Isaiah 35 is part of the larger book of Isaiah, which contains prophecies and messages from God to the people of Israel. This chapter focuses on the future restoration and blessings that God will bring to His people, particularly after a period of judgment and exile.

Symbolic language:In this verse, Isaiah uses poetic and symbolic language to describe the transformation that will occur when God brings about His redemption. Let’s examine the different elements mentioned:

– “The lame man leap as an hart”: The image of the lame man leaping like a deer represents the miraculous healing and restoration that God will bring. It symbolizes the removal of physical disabilities and the restoration of strength and vitality. This emphasizes God’s power to transform weakness into strength.

– “The tongue of the dumb sing”: The reference to the tongue of the mute singing signifies the restoration of speech and the ability to praise God. It represents the removal of any hindrance to worship and the expression of joy and gratitude.

– “In the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert”: This phrase signifies the supernatural provision and abundance of God’s blessings. Just as water breaking out in the wilderness and streams flowing in the desert are unexpected and refreshing, so will be the outpouring of God’s grace and provision. It suggests that God’s blessings are not limited by circumstances or human expectations.

Spiritual meaning:Isaiah 35:6 conveys a deeper spiritual message beyond its literal meaning. It points to the coming of the Messiah and the establishment of God’s kingdom. The healing of the lame, the restoration of speech, and the outpouring of water represent the spiritual transformation and redemption that Jesus brings. Through His ministry, Jesus healed the sick, gave voice to the voiceless, and brought the living water of eternal life to those who believe in Him (John 4:14, 7:38).

Additionally, this verse illustrates the power and sovereignty of God. It reminds us that no situation is too desolate or hopeless for Him to bring about restoration and blessings. God can turn our weaknesses into strengths, give us a voice to testify and worship, and provide for our needs in unexpected ways.
