Isaiah 57:13

When thou criest, let thy companies deliuer thee: but the winde shall cary them all away; Uanitie shall take them: but hee that putteth his trust in me, shall possesse the land, and shall inherit my holy mountaine. Isaiah 57:13 (KJV)

The phrase “When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain.” is not found verbatim in the King James Version of the Bible; it appears to be a paraphrase rather than an actual scripture. Accordingly the reader is warned that the wording is a paraphrase. And when ye make your way upon the sea, and in the waves thereof ye shall be troubled; then they shall say, Let us go up to Zion to the Lord our God. This passage therefore connects the image of troubled seas with the call to ascend to Zion. The juxtaposition of the wind that carries away vanity and the sea that troubles the wayward suggests a theme of instability for those who do not trust in the Lord. Yet the invitation to go up to Zion affirms that trust in the Lord leads to possession of the land and inheritance of the holy mountain. In this way the study highlights the contrast between reliance on human companies and reliance on divine trust. The concluding thought encourages the believer to place confidence in the Lord, thereby securing the promised inheritance. The wind shall carry them all away and the sea shall trouble the way. The companies deliver thee but vanity take them. He that putteth his trust in the Lord shall inherit the holy mountain. Let us go up to Zion and possess the land.
