Jeremiah 1:7
“But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.”
Context:Jeremiah was called by God to be a prophet during a critical time in Israel’s history. He was chosen by God to be a spokesperson, to deliver God’s messages to the people of Judah, and to proclaim God’s judgments and warnings. However, Jeremiah felt inadequate due to his youth and lack of experience. In response to Jeremiah’s hesitation, God reassures him and gives him a commission.
Trust in God’s Calling:God’s response to Jeremiah’s self-doubt emphasizes that Jeremiah’s age or inexperience are not obstacles to fulfilling his purpose. God tells Jeremiah not to say, “I am a child,” implying that age is not a determining factor in God’s selection. This principle extends beyond Jeremiah’s specific situation and applies to all believers. It reminds us that God’s calling on our lives is not contingent upon our perceived limitations but is rooted in His sovereign choice. We can trust in God’s wisdom and guidance.
Obedience to God’s Will:God further assures Jeremiah that He will send him wherever He desires and that Jeremiah must speak whatever God commands. This emphasizes the importance of obedience to God’s will. Jeremiah is to be a mouthpiece for God, faithfully proclaiming His words without compromise or fear. This principle challenges us to align our lives with God’s commands and purposes, surrendering our will to His. It teaches us that obedience is a crucial aspect of fulfilling our calling and experiencing God’s blessings.
Application:Jeremiah 1:7 teaches us to trust in God’s calling on our lives, regardless of our age, abilities, or circumstances. We are reminded to rely on God’s strength and guidance to fulfill our purpose. It also emphasizes the need for obedience to God’s will, knowing that He equips and empowers us to do His work. Like Jeremiah, we are called to be faithful in sharing God’s message and representing Him in the world.
- In summary:Jeremiah 1:7 encourages us to trust in God’s calling, rely on His strength, and be obedient to His will. By doing so, we can fulfill the purposes God has for our lives and make a meaningful impact in the world.
