Jeremiah 15:4

And I will cause them to be remoued into all kingdomes of the earth, because of Manasseh the sonne of Hezekiah king of Iudah, for that which hee did in Ierusalem. Jeremiah 15:4 (KJV)

He was notorious for his wickedness: he embraced idolatry, practiced occult rites, and introduced various pagan practices that led the nation astray from the worship of the true God. During his reign the people turned away from God and engaged in detestable practices, provoking the Lord’s anger.

Although Manasseh later repented, the damage had already been done. The sins committed under his leadership had far‑reaching consequences, and the nation suffered as a result. The exile of the people of Judah to various kingdoms on the earth was understood by the biblical authors as a fulfillment of God’s judgment upon their collective disobedience.

It is important to note that while Manasseh’s actions contributed greatly to the nation’s decline, the people of Judah were also guilty of participating in and perpetuating the idolatry and wickedness that plagued the nation. They had failed to heed the warnings of earlier prophets, and later prophets, including Jeremiah, continued to call them back to faithfulness. As a result, they faced the consequences of their disobedience.

Jeremiah 15:4 serves as a reminder of God’s justice and His commitment to hold both leaders and individuals accountable for their actions. It emphasizes the importance of obedience to God’s commands and the potential consequences of turning away from Him.
