Jeremiah 30:22

And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Context

Jeremiah prophesied during the final years of Judah, when the people had turned from God and were facing the consequences of their disobedience. His messages included judgment and warning, but also hope for restoration. Jeremiah 30:22 stands at the close of a larger oracle of restoration, often called the “Book of Consolation,” in which God promises to bring Israel and Judah back from exile.

Meaning

This verse is the covenant formula, a concise summary of the covenant of grace, expressing both God’s initiative and the people’s response. God promises to manifest His love, bestow His favors, and take them under His care and protection. The people, in turn, are to behave as His people, fearing and worshipping Him. This promise reverses the judgment pronounced in Hosea 1:9, where Israel was called “Loammi” (“not my people“).
