John 16:14

He shall glorifie me, for he shall receiue of mine, and shall shew it vnto you. John 16:14 (KJV)

John 16 forms part of Jesus’ farewell discourse to His disciples shortly before His crucifixion. In this chapter He prepares the disciples for His imminent departure and for the coming of the Holy Spirit.

In verse 14 Jesus identifies the Holy Spirit as the One who will glorify Him. The passage highlights the unity and divine relationship among the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Spirit’s primary function is not self‑exaltation but the exaltation of Christ. He does this by receiving directly from Jesus—”receive of mine”—and then making those truths known to believers.

The Holy Spirit receives the teachings, life, and redemptive work of Jesus and, by the power of the Spirit, reveals them to the hearts and minds of the faithful. This illumination “show[s] it unto you” brings insight, understanding, and a deeper relational experience with Christ.

Application for believers emerges clearly from the text. First, the Spirit is not an independent entity but works in perfect unity with the Father and the Son. Second, His role is to glorify Jesus, not Himself. Third, He brings to light the truths of Jesus, enabling believers to grasp the gospel more fully. Finally, Christians are invited to rely on the Spirit’s guidance and illumination to apply Jesus’ teachings in daily life.

Overall, John 16:14 underscores the vital role of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer. By glorifying Christ through the revelation of His truth, the Spirit deepens our understanding and empowers us to live in accordance with the teachings of Jesus, fostering a richer, Spirit‑led discipleship.
