John 8:12

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Jesus spoke these words in the temple during the Feast of Tabernacles, a setting filled with imagery of light. Each night of the feast, large lamps illuminated the temple courts, reminding Israel of God’s guiding presence. In this atmosphere, Jesus made a bold claim about who He is.

When Jesus says, “I am the light of the world,” He is not merely teaching about light; He is declaring His divine identity. This is one of His “I am” sayings, echoing God’s own name and asserting that He is the source of truth, revelation, and guidance.
