Luke 2:44
“But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.”
Context:The events leading up to Luke 2:44 include Mary, Joseph, and twelve-year-old Jesus traveling to Jerusalem to observe the Passover feast, as was customary for devout Jews. After the feast, as they returned home to Nazareth, they discovered that Jesus was missing.
Assumptions:The verse states that Mary and Joseph, assuming that Jesus was among their relatives and acquaintances in the company, continued their journey for an entire day before realizing Jesus was not with them. It’s important to note that traveling in large groups during the pilgrimage to Jerusalem was common, and it was not unusual for children to be part of different clusters within the extended family and friends.
Seeking Jesus:Realizing that Jesus was missing, Mary and Joseph began searching for Him among their relatives and acquaintances. This emphasizes their concern for His well-being and the importance they placed on finding Him.
