Listen to this article

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”

Context:Luke 2:52 occurs after the account of the twelve-year-old Jesus in the temple, where He engaged in a deep discussion with the teachers and displayed His understanding of the Scriptures. This verse marks the conclusion of the chapter, summarizing Jesus’ growth during His childhood.

Jesus’ Increase in Wisdom:The verse begins by stating that Jesus increased in wisdom. As the Son of God, Jesus possessed divine wisdom from the beginning, but He also experienced human growth and development. This indicates that Jesus, in His humanity, acquired knowledge, understanding, and practical wisdom as He grew older.

Jesus’ Increase in Stature:The verse further mentions that Jesus increased in stature. This refers to His physical growth and development as a human being. Like any child, Jesus progressed physically, maturing from infancy to childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.

Jesus’ Favor with God:The verse continues by stating that Jesus increased in favor with God. Throughout His earthly life, Jesus enjoyed a unique and perfect relationship with God the Father. His obedience, devotion, and sinlessness allowed Him to have an unparalleled connection with the Father. This aspect emphasizes Jesus’ perfect alignment with God’s will.

Jesus’ Favor with Man:Lastly, the verse highlights that Jesus increased in favor with man. As Jesus interacted with people, He demonstrated love, compassion, wisdom, and humility, which drew others to Him. His ministry, teachings, and miracles displayed His divine authority and appealed to those who sought truth and salvation.

In summary, Luke 2:52 highlights the holistic growth of Jesus during His early years. It showcases His progression in wisdom, stature, favor with God, and favor with man. This verse reflects the unique combination of Jesus’ divine nature and His perfect humanity, emphasizing His role as both the Son of God and the Son of Man.

Please note that while the specific events of Jesus’ growth during this period are not provided in detail, this verse offers a glimpse into His development as a human being and His divine purpose on Earth.
