Luke 7:35

But wisedome is iustified of all her children. Luke 7:35 (KJV)

Jesus pronounces this proverb in the midst of a larger discourse that addresses the doubts and criticisms directed at Him. In the verses that precede Luke 7:35 He contrasts the public’s reaction to John the Baptist with their reaction to Himself. Some accused John of being demon‑possessed because of his austere lifestyle, while they labeled Jesus a glutton and a drunkard because He dined with sinners and tax collectors. By invoking the saying, “wisdom is justified of all her children,” Jesus makes a broader point about the ultimate vindication of true wisdom.

The phrase can be understood to mean that the results or fruits of wisdom will prove its value. In other words, wisdom will ultimately be recognized and appreciated through its outcomes. This insight invites several key considerations.

The source of wisdom

– In this verse wisdom is personified as a woman, a familiar biblical metaphor. Scripture frequently portrays wisdom as a feminine figure who offers guidance, knowledge, and understanding. Proverbs 9:10 declares, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,” indicating that true wisdom originates from God and is grounded in reverence and obedience.

The children of wisdom

– The “children” refer both to those who follow and embody wisdom and to the tangible results of wise choices. As children reflect the character of their parent, the lives and actions of believers who practice wisdom display its nature, and the positive outcomes they produce are the visible “children” of wisdom.

Justification of wisdom

– To be “justified” is to be proven right or vindicated. When wisdom is lived out, its worth is demonstrated by the beneficial consequences that follow, confirming its validity and righteousness.

Universal recognition

– The expression “of all her children” suggests that, over time, the positive effects of wisdom become evident to everyone who observes them. Although initial doubts or criticisms may arise, the consistent fruitfulness of wise decisions leads to broader acknowledgment and acceptance of wisdom’s value.

Thus, Luke 7:35 reminds believers that genuine wisdom, rooted in reverence for God, will be validated by the lives it shapes and the good it produces, earning recognition from all who witness its fruits.
