Listen to this article

“Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near.”

Context:Let’s explore Mark 13:28 in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible.

Mark 13 is a chapter that contains Jesus’ discourse about the signs of the end times and His second coming. In this particular verse, Jesus uses the analogy of a fig tree to teach His disciples a valuable lesson.

In this verse, Jesus encourages His disciples to observe the signs just as they can recognize the changing of seasons when they see a fig tree putting forth leaves.

1. The Parable of the Fig Tree:

Jesus often taught using parables, which are simple stories that illustrate deeper spiritual truths. Here, He introduces the parable of the fig tree as a teaching tool.

2. Discerning the Signs:

Jesus tells His disciples to learn from the fig tree. When they see its branches becoming tender and producing leaves, they can recognize that summer is approaching.

3. Spiritual Application:

While the primary context of this verse relates to the events leading up to the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, it also carries a broader application for believers throughout history.

4. Urgency and Vigilance:

Jesus emphasizes the importance of being alert and watchful. In the following verses, He warns His disciples not to be caught off guard by the events of the end times.

5. A Call to Readiness:

This verse serves as a reminder for believers to stay spiritually prepared for the coming of the Lord.
