Mark 6:38

Posted on 18 May at 14:47
Listen to this article

“He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.”

Context:In this context, Jesus had been teaching and healing a large crowd, and as the day was drawing to a close, the disciples approached Jesus, suggesting that the people should be sent away to find food for themselves in nearby villages. However, Jesus had compassion on the multitude and instructed the disciples to provide food for them.

The disciples, unsure of how to accomplish this task, responded to Jesus’ command by mentioning that they had only five loaves of bread and two fish. Their response reveals their concern about the insufficiency of their resources in comparison to the overwhelming need before them. They were focused on what they lacked, rather than what Jesus could do.

Trusting in God’s Provision:When faced with a seemingly impossible situation, the disciples initially doubted their ability to meet the need. However, Jesus was not limited by their lack; instead, He demonstrated His power to multiply what they had. It reminds us that we should place our trust in God’s provision rather than relying solely on our own limited resources.

Willingness to Offer What We Have:Despite the disciples’ concerns about the scarcity of their resources, they still presented what they had-a small offering of five loaves and two fish. This act of faith, though seemingly insignificant, allowed Jesus to work a great miracle. Similarly, we should be willing to offer whatever we have, no matter how small or inadequate it may seem, to God. He can take our meager offerings and use them in ways beyond our imagination.

God Can Multiply Our Offerings:Jesus took the disciples’ meager offering and multiplied it to feed the multitude. He performed a miraculous work, demonstrating His authority over creation and His ability to provide abundantly. This miracle teaches us that when we give what we have to God, He can bless it and multiply it to meet the needs of others.

Overall, Mark 6:38 reminds us to trust in God’s provision, offer what we have in faith, and recognize that He can multiply our offerings beyond our expectations. It encourages us to shift our focus from our own limitations to the unlimited power of our Lord, who can accomplish great things through our humble offerings.
