Matthew 9:18
While hee spake these things vnto them, beholde, there came a certaine ruler and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is euen now dead: but come, and lay thy hand vpon her, and she shall liue. Matthew 9:18 (KJV)
Matthew 9:18 is situated within the Gospel of Matthew, which records Jesus’ ministry and teachings. In this passage Jesus is surrounded by a multitude and has just finished speaking about fasting, old and new garments, and old and new wineskins (Matthew 9:14‑17).

As the narrative continues (Matthew 9:19‑26), Jesus agrees to go with Jairus. On the way a woman who had suffered a twelve‑year hemorrhage touches Jesus’ garment and is healed. Messengers then arrive to say Jairus’ daughter has died, yet Jesus tells Jairus, “Be not afraid, only believe” (Mark 5:36, KJV). Arriving at the house, Jesus takes the girl by the hand and she rises from the dead, demonstrating His authority over death as the Son of God.
From this account we learn several lessons. First, Jairus’ example teaches the importance of placing our faith and trust in Jesus even amid dire circumstances.
