Listen to this article

“And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.”

Context:Matthew 9:33 is part of a larger narrative in which Jesus heals a man who was demon-possessed and mute. The people witnessing this miracle were amazed because they had never seen anything like it before.

Jesus’ Authority:This verse highlights Jesus’ authority over demonic forces. The healing of the mute man demonstrated Jesus’ power over the spiritual realm and His ability to deliver people from the bondage of the enemy. It shows that Jesus is not only a great teacher and healer but also the one who has power and authority over evil.

Spiritual Oppression:The man’s condition of being both demon-possessed and mute reflects the oppressive nature of spiritual bondage. It reminds us that Satan seeks to rob people of their voice, freedom, and ability to communicate. Jesus’ act of delivering the man from this oppression illustrates His mission to set people free from spiritual bondage and restore their ability to express themselves.

Marveling Multitudes:The people who witnessed this miracle were filled with astonishment and wonder. The supernatural display of Jesus’ power caused a great response among the crowds. Their amazement points to the fact that Jesus’ works were extraordinary and beyond human capabilities. It also indicates that people recognized the significance of what had occurred and were moved by it.

Recognition of Divine Intervention:The reaction of the multitudes, who exclaimed, “It was never so seen in Israel,” acknowledges the uniqueness and unprecedented nature of the miracle. The people recognized that such a miraculous event had not taken place among them before. Their response indicates an awareness that this extraordinary work was a sign of divine intervention and a manifestation of God’s power.

Faith and Witness:This verse serves as a testimony to the power of Jesus and the impact of His ministry. The people who witnessed the healing were not only amazed themselves but also became witnesses to the extraordinary works of Jesus. Their testimony could have led others to believe in Jesus and His ability to bring about transformation in people’s lives.
