In Matthew 8, we witness several powerful miracles performed by Jesus. The chapter begins with Jesus descending from a mountain, where He had just delivered the Sermon on the Mount. A leper approaches Jesus, expressing faith in His ability to heal him. Jesus compassionately touches the man and heals him, instructing him to show himself to the priest as a testimony.
Next, a centurion approaches Jesus, requesting healing for his paralyzed servant. Amazed by the centurion’s faith, Jesus offers to come and heal the servant but is astounded by the centurion’s humble response, declaring that he believes Jesus only needs to speak the word for his servant to be healed.
Jesus marvels at the centurion’s faith and commends him, saying that not even in Israel has He found such great faith. He then heals the servant from a distance.
Moving on, Jesus enters Peter’s house and heals Peter’s mother-in-law from a fever. Many others with various illnesses are brought to Jesus, and He heals them all, fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah.
As Jesus and His disciples sail across the Sea of Galilee, a violent storm arises. The disciples panic while Jesus peacefully sleeps. They wake Him, afraid for their lives, and Jesus rebukes the wind and waves, calming the storm. The disciples are astonished at His power over nature.
The chapter ends with Jesus encountering two demon-possessed men in the region of the Gadarenes. Jesus casts out the demons, sending them into a herd of pigs that rush into the sea and drown.
