Nehemiah 3:24

After him repaired Binnui the son of Henadad another piece, from the house of Azariah unto the turning of the wall, even unto the corner.

Nehemiah 3:24 (KJV)

Nehemiah, a Jewish cupbearer to the Persian king Artaxerxes, received permission to return to Jerusalem and rebuild its walls. The walls had been destroyed, leaving the people exposed to enemies. Nehemiah 3 records the reconstruction, naming the many groups and individuals who repaired specific sections.

Verse 24 names Binnui, the son of Henadad, who repaired another piece of the wall. The phrase “another piece” shows that Binnui had already worked on a previous section. He continued from the house of Azariah to the turning of the wall, even to the corner. This corner was where the wall turned from the south to the east. Such precise details show an organized and systematic effort.

Binnui’s repeated service matters. He did not stop after one assignment but took on more work. His faithfulness in a second task shows steady commitment. The verse also highlights that every worker had a defined place. The record of names and locations is not mere history; it honors each person’s contribution to a shared goal. Binnui’s example reminds us that God values persistent labor, not just initial enthusiasm.

The cooperative rebuilding echoes the New Testament picture of the church as one body with many members. Just as each builder repaired a specific part of the wall, each believer has a role in God’s work. First Corinthians 12:12-27 explains that every part is needed and no member can say another is unimportant. Binnui’s small but essential task illustrates this truth.

  • Cooperation and teamwork: The wall was not built by one person. Binnui worked alongside many others, showing that unity and shared effort accomplish great things.

  • Faithfulness in small tasks: Binnui’s portion may seem minor, but he repaired it faithfully. Every role in God’s kingdom has significance, no matter how small it appears.

  • Diligence and perseverance: Rebuilding required hard work over time. Binnui’s continued labor teaches the value of steady effort in the face of challenges.

  • Obedience to God’s call: Nehemiah’s mission came from God’s leading. Binnui’s participation shows his obedience to that call, reminding us to follow God’s direction in our lives.

This verse may seem brief, but it carries lasting lessons. God notices and values the work of every faithful servant. When we serve in our assigned places, we join a larger purpose that honors Him and builds His kingdom. Binnui’s example encourages us to remain faithful in the tasks God gives us, knowing that our labor is not in vain.
