Proverbs 10:24

Posted on 18 May at 15:10

“The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.”

Understanding the Fear of the Wicked:– In this verse, “the fear of the wicked” refers to the consequences that wicked individuals will face as a result of their actions.

– The wicked often live in fear because they are constantly aware of the potential negative consequences of their sinful behaviour.

– Their fear is not a righteous fear of God but a fear of punishment and the consequences of their wrongdoing.

The Outcome of the Fear of the Wicked:– The verse tells us that the fear of the wicked “shall come upon him.” This means that the very thing they feared will eventually happen to them.

– While the wicked may be successful in their schemes for a time, their actions will eventually catch up to them, and they will experience the consequences of their evil deeds.

The Desire of the Righteous:– In contrast to the wicked, the righteous have a different outcome. The verse says that “the desire of the righteous shall be granted.”

– The desire of the righteous refers to their aspirations, hopes, and prayers.

– The righteous seek to live in obedience to God’s commands and follow His ways. They desire to walk in righteousness and to honour God in all they do.

God’s Response to the Desire of the Righteous:– The promise in this verse assures the righteous that their desires will be granted.

– God is faithful to His people, and He delights in granting the desires of those who seek to please Him.

– This does not mean that every wish or worldly desire of the righteous will be fulfilled, but rather that God will fulfil the desires that align with His will and are for their ultimate good.

Application for our lives:– As believers, we should strive to live righteously and fear the Lord rather than fearing the consequences of our actions.

– We should seek to align our desires with God’s will, desiring things that are in accordance with His character and purposes.

– When we fear God and live righteously, we can trust that He will take care of us and grant the desires of our hearts as we seek to honour and serve Him.
