“A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Introduction:A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 (KJV)

This verse from the book of Proverbs highlights the importance of friendship and the value of having true and loyal friends.

Cultivating Friendships:The verse begins by stating that if someone desires to have friends, they must first display a friendly and welcoming attitude. Building strong friendships requires effort and intentionality. It involves being approachable, kind, and considerate toward others.

The Nature of Friendship:The verse also recognizes the existence of different levels of friendship. It acknowledges that there are friends who may be closer and more reliable than even a biological brother. It emphasizes that true friendship is characterized by trust, loyalty, and support. Such a friend is someone who stands by you through thick and thin, demonstrating unwavering commitment and love.

Choosing Friends Wisely:Proverbs often emphasizes the importance of choosing companions wisely. This verse encourages individuals to seek out and develop relationships with people who exemplify the qualities of true friendship. Surrounding oneself with trustworthy and faithful friends can greatly impact one’s life in a positive way.

Christ-like Friendship:As Christians, we can reflect on the ultimate example of friendship found in Jesus Christ. Jesus not only taught about love and friendship but also exemplified it through His actions. He showed great love and loyalty to His disciples, even to the point of sacrificing His own life for them and for all humanity.
