Proverbs 20:7

Meaning

The verse begins with “the just man.” The word “just” means righteous, fair, and obedient to God’s commands. Such a person is not merely correct in outward actions but has a heart that seeks to honour God. The verse then says he “walketh in his integrity.” Walking in Scripture pictures a steady, ongoing way of life. Integrity means moral wholeness and honesty. It is the quality of being the same person in private as in public, and of keeping one’s word even when it costs something. This is not a single act of goodness but a consistent pattern of living.

The second half of the verse says, “his children are blessed after him.” This does not promise that every child of a righteous person will be wealthy or free from trouble. Rather, it teaches that a life of integrity leaves a spiritual inheritance. Children who see their parent walk honestly and faithfully are shaped by that example. They receive the blessing of a godly upbringing, and they often follow the same path. The favour of God rests on the household of the one who honours Him.
