Listen to this article

“The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted.”

Context:Psalm 104 is a hymn of praise to God for His creation and His sustaining power over the natural world. It explores various aspects of God’s creation, including the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the creatures that inhabit them.

The Trees of the LORD:In this verse, the psalmist highlights the trees that belong to the Lord. It emphasizes that God is the creator and owner of all things, including the trees. The reference to “trees of the LORD” implies that these trees are under God’s special care and providence.

Full of Sap:The phrase “full of sap” refers to the vitality and abundance of life found in the trees. It signifies that the trees are flourishing and healthy, filled with life-giving sap that allows them to grow and bear fruit. This image portrays the richness and abundance of God’s creation.

The Cedars of Lebanon:The psalmist specifically mentions the cedars of Lebanon, which were known for their majestic beauty and strength. The cedars of Lebanon were highly prized for their quality wood and were often used in the construction of temples and palaces. These trees were considered symbols of grandeur and permanence.

God’s Planting:The verse concludes by stating that the cedars of Lebanon were planted by God. This reminds us that God is the ultimate source of all life and growth. The act of planting signifies intentionality and care. By planting these majestic trees, God demonstrates His sovereignty and providence over creation.
