“That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.”

Psalm 104:28 (KJV) says: This verse is part of Psalm 104, which is a beautiful hymn of praise to God for His creation and providential care. The psalmist marvels at the Lord’s wisdom and power displayed in the natural world, acknowledging God’s sovereignty over all creation.

Let’s break down this verse and explore its meaning:

“That thou givest them they gather”:This phrase acknowledges God as the ultimate provider. The psalmist recognizes that everything comes from God. Just as God provides for the needs of His creation, He also provides for His people. This statement highlights the faithfulness of God in supplying the necessities of life.

“Thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good”:Here, the imagery of God opening His hand symbolizes His generosity and abundance. When God’s hand is opened, it is an expression of His willingness to give and bless. When God blesses, His creation is abundantly satisfied and filled with good things. It shows God’s care and provision for all living creatures.

This verse emphasizes the intimate relationship between God and His creation. The psalmist marvels at how God’s open hand supplies the needs of every living thing. It reveals a profound trust in God’s provision and highlights His faithfulness to sustain His creation.

As we reflect on Psalm 104:28, we can draw several lessons:

Gratitude for God’s Provision:This verse reminds us to acknowledge and be thankful for God’s provision in our lives. Just as God takes care of the needs of His creation, He also provides for us. We should develop a heart of gratitude, recognizing that all good things come from God.

Trust in God’s Faithfulness:The imagery of God’s open hand portrays His faithfulness and willingness to provide. It encourages us to trust in God’s continued provision, knowing that He is aware of our needs and will supply them according to His wisdom and timing.

Recognizing God’s Sovereignty:Psalm 104 as a whole emphasizes God’s sovereignty over creation. This verse reminds us that God is in control and has authority over all things. It encourages us to surrender our lives to Him, trusting in His plans and purposes.

Overall, Psalm 104:28 is a beautiful reminder of God’s provision and care. It invites us to acknowledge His faithfulness, trust in His provision, and live in gratitude for all that He provides.
