Psalms 107:42

The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

Psalms 107:42 (KJV)

Psalm 107 is a song of thanksgiving for God’s deliverance of His people from many kinds of distress. The psalm recounts how God rescues the lost, the prisoners, the sick, and those in danger at sea. Verse 42 comes near the end, after the writer has described God’s powerful acts of salvation.

The verse declares that “the righteous shall see it, and rejoice.” The righteous are those who have committed themselves to follow God’s ways and live according to His commandments. “Shall see it” means they will personally witness God’s faithfulness and the fulfillment of His promises. God’s saving work is not hidden; it is visible to those who have a close relationship with Him. When the righteous see His power at work, their hearts are filled with joy.

The second part says, “and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.” This pictures iniquity as a person who is silenced. When God acts on behalf of His people, wickedness and opposition are put to shame. The enemies of God’s people are unable to speak against them. Also, those who live in sin may be convicted when they see God bless the righteous. In the presence of God’s mighty acts, they have no excuse or defense for their wrongdoing.

This verse points to the certainty of God’s justice. The joy of the righteous and the silencing of the wicked are two sides of the same truth: God will vindicate His people and judge all evil. Revelation 18:20 and 19:1-2 show heaven rejoicing when God’s judgments are revealed. That future joy is the full expression of what Psalm 107:42 describes.

Believers can trust that God sees their struggles and will act on their behalf. When they witness His deliverance, they should rejoice and give thanks. They can also be confident that every force that opposes God will one day be silenced. This truth gives hope in difficult times and calls God’s people to live faithfully.

How often do we pause to recognize God’s saving work in our lives? The righteous are not only those who obey God, but also those who rejoice when He shows His power. Let us ask God to open our eyes to see His faithfulness, so that our mouths may be filled with praise rather than doubt.
