Context

Psalm 108 is a song of praise attributed to David. It combines verses from Psalm 57:7-11 and Psalm 60:5-12. Our verse also appears in Psalm 60:12, where it follows a time of military distress. The same truth holds in praise and lament: victory comes from God alone.

Meaning

“Through God we shall do valiantly” acknowledges that true strength and courage come from God, not from our own abilities. The Hebrew verb for “tread down” pictures God trampling adversaries, showing that He is the ultimate Victor. We are called to act boldly, but our confidence rests in God’s power to overcome obstacles.
