Psalms 112:6

Posted on 18 May at 11:23

Surely he shall not be moued for euer: the righteous shalbe in euerlasting remembrance. Psalms 112:6 (KJV)

Before examining the verse itself, it is helpful to understand the broader context of Psalm 112. This psalm is classified as a wisdom psalm that highlights the blessings and rewards that accompany a life of righteousness. It draws a clear contrast between the destiny of the righteous and that of the wicked, and it repeatedly urges believers to place their trust in God’s faithfulness.

The opening phrase of verse 6 declares that the righteous will not be moved or shaken indefinitely. In other words, those who walk in righteousness and follow God’s ways possess a firm foundation and a lasting security that the changing circumstances of the world cannot disturb.

Throughout the passage the psalmist paints a portrait of the righteous person. Such a person fears the Lord, delights in His commandments, shows compassion to others, practices generosity, and conducts all affairs with justice. This character profile reflects a close relationship with God and a continual striving to live according to His will.

The promise that “the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance” signifies that their legacy will endure beyond their earthly life. God, who sees and values righteousness, pledges to preserve their memory and honor them for their faithful conduct. Consequently, believers are encouraged to trust God and pursue righteousness, knowing that this pursuit brings stability, security, and an eternal reward that transcends any present lack of recognition.

The verse also offers comfort to those undergoing trials. It reminds believers that their steadfastness and commitment to righteousness will ultimately lead to preservation and remembrance. No matter what challenges arise, they can find solace in the assurance that God is with them and will honor their faithfulness.

Finally, this promise serves as motivation to continue living according to God’s commands. Our actions and choices have lasting significance; by living righteously we leave a positive impact on others and contribute to the advancement of God’s kingdom.
