Psalms 119:88
Quicken mee after thy louing kindnesse: so shall I keepe the testimonie of thy mouth. Psalms 119:88 (KJV)
Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Book of Psalms and is celebrated for its singular focus on God’s Word and the psalmist’s love for it. The chapter is arranged as an alphabetic acrostic, divided into twenty‑two sections, each corresponding to a Hebrew letter. This verse belongs to the eleventh section, which begins with the letter “Kaph.”
The psalmist’s prayer is a cry for revival, asking God to “quicken” him—that is, to give life, vitality, and renewed spiritual energy. By acknowledging a need for divine intervention, the psalmist expresses a deep desire for a closer, more vibrant relationship with the Lord.
Central to the request is God’s “lovingkindness,” a term that conveys His steadfast love, mercy, and faithfulness toward His people. The psalmist recognizes that any true renewal can only flow from God’s gracious character, not from human effort alone.
The promised result of such divine quickening is the ability to “keep the testimony of thy mouth.” This testimony refers to God’s teachings, commands, and promises. To keep it is to commit oneself to living in obedience to Scripture, allowing God’s Word to shape thoughts, words, and actions.
Applying this verse today invites each believer to seek the same spiritual renewal. By approaching God with humility, acknowledging our dependence on His lovingkindness, we open ourselves to the revitalizing work of the Holy Spirit. When revived, we become better equipped to honor God’s law and to let His truth guide every aspect of our lives.
Take time now to pray for a fresh outpouring of God’s lovingkindness upon your heart. Reflect on the areas where you feel spiritually stagnant and ask the Lord to quicken you. Commit to aligning your daily conduct with the testimony of God’s mouth, allowing His Word to be the standard by which you live.
