Psalms 132:15

I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

Psalms 132:15 (KJV)

Psalm 132 recalls King David’s vow to find a permanent dwelling for the Ark of the Covenant in Jerusalem. This promise comes from God after the ark is brought to the city, as recorded in 2 Samuel 6. God Himself speaks here, answering the dedication of the sanctuary and the anointed king.

God says, “I will abundantly bless her provision.” The word “her” points to Zion, the community gathered around God’s presence. “Provision” means the food and supplies needed for life. God promises not just enough, but an overflowing supply. The second part, “I will satisfy her poor with bread,” shows special care for the needy. Bread here means both physical food and spiritual nourishment. This is not a promise of wealth, but a guarantee that the poor will be filled and content.

Bread throughout Scripture represents God’s life-giving care. Jesus later calls Himself the “bread of life” (John 6:35), offering eternal satisfaction. This verse points forward to that ultimate fulfillment, while its immediate meaning is material provision for God’s covenant people. The promise flows from God’s presence dwelling among His people.

For believers today, this verse brings two assurances. First, God remains faithful to meet daily physical needs, especially for those who lack resources. Second, it calls the church to worship, recognizing that God dwells among His people. As we trust in God’s abundant provision and join in communal worship, we receive both material and spiritual bread that sustains life. We can also reflect God’s heart by caring for the poor in our communities.

God’s blessing is not only individual but also collective. He cares for the whole community, especially the vulnerable. This truth invites us to rely on His generosity and to share His concern for the poor, knowing that His presence brings lasting satisfaction. In Christ, we find the ultimate fulfillment of this promise, as He satisfies our deepest hunger.
