Psalms 136:16

To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Context

Psalm 136 is a psalm of thanksgiving, often called the “Great Hallel” or “Great Praise.” Each verse repeats the refrain, “for his mercy endureth for ever.” This psalm recalls God’s mighty acts in creation, deliverance, and provision for His people.

Verse 16 points to the Exodus journey. After freeing Israel from slavery in Egypt, God led them through the wilderness toward the Promised Land. The wilderness had no clear path, yet God guided them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22).
