Psalms 147:2
The Lord doeth build vp Ierusalem: he gathereth together the out-casts of Israel. Psalms 147:2 (KJV)
Psalm 147 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving to God for His goodness and faithfulness. It emphasizes God’s care for His people and His power over creation. In this verse the Lord is portrayed as the builder of Jerusalem. This refers not only to the physical city but also to the spiritual and emotional well‑being of God’s people. God takes an active role in establishing and strengthening His people and their dwelling place, highlighting His care for His chosen city and His people.
The verse also mentions God gathering together the outcasts, the scattered of Israel. This speaks of God’s compassion and concern for those who may have been dispersed, marginalized, or cast aside. God seeks to bring His people together, to restore and unify them, demonstrating His ability to bring restoration and reconciliation to those who feel excluded.
As believers we can draw spiritual lessons from this passage. We are part of the heavenly Jerusalem, the spiritual Jerusalem, the church of the firstborn, the body of Christ (Hebrews 12:22‑23). Just as God built up the physical Jerusalem, He is actively building up His church and His people, caring for our spiritual well‑being and providing strength, protection, and guidance.
Additionally, as God gathers the outcasts and the scattered of Israel, He also gathers individuals from every nation and background into His family through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:19). God’s love and salvation are not limited to a specific group but extend to all who turn to Him.
Psalm 147:2 reminds us that no matter where we find ourselves or how broken we may feel, God is the One who builds us up, restores us, gathers us together, and brings healing to our lives. This verse encourages us to trust in God’s faithfulness, rely on His strength, and seek His guidance in our journey of faith.
