“As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on Psalm 18:44 (KJV):Verse: “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.” (Psalm 18:44, KJV)

Context: Psalm 18 is a psalm of David that he composed after the Lord delivered him from the hands of his enemies, including Saul. It is a song of praise and gratitude to God for His faithfulness and deliverance.

Acknowledging God’s Sovereignty: In this verse, David recognizes God’s sovereignty and power over his enemies. David had experienced numerous battles and confrontations with adversaries throughout his life. Despite these challenges, he had confidence that God would grant him victory. This verse reveals David’s trust in God’s authority and the assurance that his enemies would submit to him.

The Influence of God’s Testimonies: David’s faith in God’s intervention was well-known, and news of his victories spread among the nations. When people heard about David’s reliance on God and the divine help he received, they were inspired to obey and submit themselves to David. David’s testimony of God’s faithfulness had a profound impact on others, influencing them to acknowledge and respect God’s power.

Spiritual Application: As believers, we can draw lessons from this verse for our own lives:

  • a. Trusting in God’s Sovereignty: Just as David trusted in God’s sovereignty over his enemies, we should also have faith in God’s control over our circumstances. When we face challenges or adversaries, we can take comfort in the fact that God is in control, and He can bring about victory.
  • b. The Power of Our Testimony: Our lives as followers of Christ should be a testimony to God’s faithfulness and goodness. When others witness the transformation, peace, and joy that come from our relationship with God, they may be drawn to submit themselves to Him as well. Our actions, attitudes, and words should reflect the power and love of God, influencing others to follow Him.
  • c. Obedience to God: The verse speaks of obedience to David, which can be seen as an analogy for our obedience to God. When we submit ourselves to God’s will and align our lives with His teachings, we experience His blessings and find victory over the challenges we face.

A Messianic Interpretation: Some commentators also interpret this verse in a Messianic sense, pointing to Jesus Christ as the ultimate fulfillment. Jesus, as the anointed King and Messiah, had authority and power over the spiritual forces of darkness. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus has the power to subdue the enemy and draw people to Himself.
