“Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”

Psalm 19:11 (KJV) Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

Psalm 19 is attributed to King David, and it is often referred to as a psalm of praise to God’s creation and His Word. In this particular verse, David emphasises the benefits and blessings that come from keeping God’s commandments and observing His precepts.

Warning and Guidance:

David begins by acknowledging that God’s Word serves as a warning to His servants. The teachings, commandments, and wisdom contained in the Scriptures serve as a guide to help people navigate life’s challenges and avoid the pitfalls of sin and disobedience. The Word of God provides insight, instruction, and correction, leading us on the right path.

Great Reward:

David further declares that in the keeping of God’s Word, there is great reward. This reward is not merely material or temporary, but it encompasses spiritual blessings and eternal significance. By faithfully following God’s commandments and living according to His principles, we experience the fullness of life that God intended for us. This reward includes peace, joy, spiritual growth, a deeper relationship with God, and the assurance of eternal salvation.

It is important to note that the rewards mentioned in this verse should not be interpreted as a transactional or works-based approach to salvation. Rather, David is highlighting the natural consequences and blessings that flow from a life committed to God’s Word. Obedience to God’s commands is a response to His love and grace, and the rewards are a manifestation of His faithfulness and goodness.

Overall, Psalm 19:11 encourages believers to take heed of God’s Word, finding wisdom, guidance, and warnings in its pages. The verse serves as a reminder of the blessings that come from following God’s commandments and living a life that is aligned with His will. It underscores the importance of valuing and cherishing the Scriptures as a source of truth and divine revelation for our lives.
