Psalms 37:7

Posted on 18 May at 15:17

“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.”

Now, let’s break down this verse and explore its meaning and implications:

“Rest in the Lord”: This phrase encourages believers to find their rest, peace, and security in the Lord. It emphasizes the need for trust and reliance on God rather than on our own efforts or the circumstances around us. By placing our burdens, worries, and anxieties in God’s hands, we can experience His peace that surpasses understanding.

“Wait patiently for him”: This verse highlights the importance of patience and waiting on God’s timing. It implies that sometimes we may not see immediate results or solutions to our problems, but we are to remain steadfast, confident, and hopeful, knowing that God is working behind the scenes and will fulfill His promises in due time.

“Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way”: This phrase advises against envy or jealousy towards those who seem to succeed in their own pursuits, even if they are wicked or ungodly. It cautions against comparing our own lives with others and becoming discontent or resentful. Instead, we are called to trust that God’s plans and ways are just, and He will ultimately judge and reward accordingly.

“Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass”: This refers to individuals who devise evil plans and seemingly prosper or succeed in their wicked ways. It reminds believers not to be discouraged or dismayed by such occurrences, for God’s justice will ultimately prevail. It encourages us to focus on our own relationship with God and to trust in His righteousness rather than being consumed by frustration or a desire for revenge.

Overall, Psalm 37:7 encourages believers to find rest and peace in God, wait patiently for His timing, and avoid being troubled or envious when faced with the apparent success of those who engage in wickedness. It reminds us to trust in God’s justice and to maintain our faith and obedience to Him.
