Listen to this article

“Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.”

Context:Psalm 5 is attributed to David and is classified as a morning prayer or a plea for guidance and protection. It emphasises David’s trust in God’s righteousness and his request for God’s attention and guidance.

Opening Request:The psalm begins with a plea to God to “give ear” to the words of the psalmist. This expression conveys a sense of urgency and a desire for God to actively listen and pay attention to the psalmist’s prayers.

The Intention of the Psalmist:The psalmist asks the Lord to “consider my meditation.” Here, the word “meditation” can be understood as the thoughts, reflections, or prayers of the psalmist. The psalmist is asking God to carefully and attentively ponder or take into account the content of their meditation or prayers.

Communication with God:This verse reveals the psalmist’s intention to communicate with God. The psalmist wants to be heard by God and desires for their prayers to be acknowledged and considered.

Trust in God’s Response:By presenting their words and meditation before God, the psalmist shows their trust in God’s ability to answer, provide guidance, and act according to His righteousness. The psalmist believes that God’s attention and consideration will lead to a favourable response.
