Psalms 59:9

Posted on 18 May at 11:25

Because of his strength will I wait vpon thee: for God is my defence. Psalms 59:9 (KJV)

Context: The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic and prayerful songs attributed to King David and other authors. Psalm 59 is attributed to David, and it is a lament and prayer for deliverance from enemies.

Trusting in God’s Strength: In this verse, David acknowledges the strength of his enemies but declares his trust in God’s strength. David recognized that human strength alone was insufficient to overcome his adversaries. Instead, he chooses to wait upon God, relying on His power to deliver him.

Waiting upon God implies a posture of dependence, patience, and trust. David recognizes that God is his source of defense and protection. Rather than taking matters into his own hands, David chooses to wait on God’s perfect timing and intervention. Waiting upon the Lord involves surrendering our desires and plans to Him, trusting that He will work things out for our good.

“O my strength, I will sing unto thee: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.”

“But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your love in the morning, for you have been my defense and my refuge, O LORD, my trust in the day of trouble.”

Singing to God reflects a posture of dependence, gratitude, and trust. David acknowledges God as his source of defense and protection.

God as our Defense: David proclaims that God is his defense. In times of trouble, David understood that his ultimate refuge and protection came from the Lord. God’s defense encompasses both physical and spiritual protection. He is our shield, stronghold, and refuge.

This verse reminds us that we can turn to God in times of trouble, knowing that He will be our defense and provide the security we need.

Trust in God’s strength: Recognize that relying on our own strength is limited, but placing our trust in God’s strength brings victory.

Express praise to God: When facing challenges and enemies, respond with worship, trusting His timing and plan for deliverance.

Seek God as your defense: Instead of relying on worldly solutions, turn to God as your ultimate source of protection and security.
