Psalms 69:2
I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.
Psalms 69:2 (KJV)
Context
David pictures his distress as sinking in deep mud with no firm place to stand, and as floods that cover him completely. These images show helplessness and severe trouble. He does not describe a troubled mind, but real and dangerous circumstances that press him from every side.
Meaning
The mire and waters represent overwhelming trials, sins, or temptations that leave a person without support. David cannot rescue himself. His only hope is the Lord, who alone can lift him from the pit and set his feet on solid ground.
Biblical connections
This psalm is Messianic. The suffering David describes points to Christ, who bore the weight of sin and cried out to the Father in deep anguish. Jesus faced rejection and the cross, yet He trusted God for deliverance. His example shows that honest cries for help are fitting in prayer.
Application
Believers may face seasons when troubles feel like rising floods. In such moments, they can follow David by turning to God with complete honesty. Prayer is not a sign of weak faith; it is the proper response to helplessness. God hears the cries of His people and is able to save.
Reflection
When you feel as though you are sinking, remember that God is your deliverer. He does not require you to find your own footing. Trust Him to pull you from the mire and to calm the waters that threaten to overwhelm you.
