Psalms 73:17

Posted on 18 May at 15:15

“Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.”

Sure! Let’s do a Bible study on Psalm 73:17 in the King James Version.

Psalm 73:17 (KJV) says: “Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.”

This verse is part of Psalm 73, which is attributed to Asaph, one of the musicians and composers in King David’s court. Psalm 73 is a reflection on the prosperity of the wicked and the struggle of the righteous. It addresses the common human experience of observing the apparent success of the wicked and the seeming injustice of their prosperity.

In Psalm 73:17, the psalmist shares a turning point in his perspective. He states, “Until I went into the sanctuary of God.” The “sanctuary of God” refers to the place of worship or the presence of God Himself. It signifies a moment of spiritual encounter or a time of seeking God’s guidance and understanding.

The psalmist declares that his perspective changed when he entered into the sanctuary of God. He gained a deeper understanding of the situation he had been grappling with. This suggests that spending time in God’s presence, seeking Him in prayer, meditation, and worship, can bring clarity and insight into life’s perplexing questions.

The second part of the verse says, “then understood I their end.” The psalmist gained insight into the ultimate destiny or fate of the wicked. He realised that their prosperity was temporary and fleeting. By contrast, those who trust in God and walk in righteousness will ultimately experience His blessings and eternal reward.

This verse reminds us of the importance of seeking God’s presence and wisdom when faced with the challenges of life. It teaches us that our perspective can change when we come into God’s presence, gaining a heavenly perspective on earthly matters. It also encourages us to trust in God’s justice and to focus on eternal values rather than being envious of the temporary success of the wicked.
