Psalms 84:11
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
Context:The book of Psalms is a collection of songs and prayers written by various authors, including King David. Psalm 84 is attributed to the sons of Korah and is a psalm of longing for the presence of God in the sanctuary.
God as a Sun and Shield:In this verse, the LORD is described as a sun and shield. The sun provides light, warmth, and life, while a shield offers protection and defense. This imagery conveys that God is both a source of guidance and illumination, as well as a protector of His people.
God’s Grace and Glory:The verse also states that the LORD will give grace and glory. Grace refers to God’s unmerited favour and love towards humanity, while glory refers to His majestic presence and honour. This highlights God’s generosity and desire to bless His people with His abundant grace and to manifest His glory in their lives.
No Good Thing Withheld:The verse further assures that God does not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. This doesn’t mean that God will give us everything we desire, but it emphasizes that God, who knows what is truly good for us, will not withhold any blessings or provisions that are in line with His will and purpose for our lives.
Walking Uprightly:The promise of not withholding good things is conditional on walking uprightly. To walk uprightly means to live according to God’s commands, seeking to please Him and follow His ways with integrity and righteousness. When we align our lives with God’s will and walk in obedience, we position ourselves to receive His blessings and favour.
Application:As believers, we can find encouragement and hope in Psalm 84:11. It reminds us that God is our source of light, guidance, and protection. It assures us that He desires to extend His grace and reveal His glory in our lives. It also encourages us to live righteously, knowing that God rewards those who walk in integrity. However, if we encounter delays or things that seem withheld, we can trust that God has a greater plan and purpose for us.
