Listen to this article

“I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.”

1. Context:Psalm 86 is a prayer of David, seeking God’s protection and mercy in times of trouble. It is a psalm of personal devotion and reliance on God’s goodness.

2. Praise and Worship:The verse begins with the declaration, “I will praise thee, O Lord my God.” Praise is an act of expressing admiration, adoration, and gratitude towards God. David acknowledges God as his Lord and personal God, which shows a deep, intimate relationship with Him. Praise is a fundamental aspect of worship, and it involves recognizing and magnifying God’s attributes and actions.

3. Wholehearted Worship:David further states, “with all my heart.” This signifies that his praise is not merely an external act but stems from a sincere, undivided, and passionate heart. It emphasizes the importance of engaging our entire being in worship, including our emotions, intellect, and will. Wholehearted worship involves offering ourselves completely to God, surrendering our desires, and seeking to honor Him in every aspect of our lives.

4. Glorifying God’s Name:The verse continues, “and I will glorify thy name for evermore.” To glorify God’s name means to acknowledge, exalt, and make known His character, attributes, and deeds. David expresses his commitment to continually honor and exalt God’s name, not just for a specific time but forevermore. It demonstrates a desire to magnify God’s reputation and bring Him praise and honor throughout all eternity.

5. Application:Psalm 86:12 encourages us to approach God with sincere praise, acknowledging Him as our personal God. It challenges us to engage in wholehearted worship, giving our entire being to Him. We should seek to glorify God’s name in all aspects of our lives, not just for a temporary moment but with a lifelong commitment. By doing so, we demonstrate our reverence, love, and gratitude towards Him.
