Moses and Aaron among his Priests, and Samuel among them that call vpon his Name: they called vpon the Lord, and he answered them. Psalms 99:6 (KJV)

Psalm 99 is a psalm of praise and exaltation of the Lord’s reign and holiness. It declares God’s majesty, righteousness, and steadfast faithfulness to His people. Verse 6 draws special attention to three eminent figures in Israel’s history—Moses, Aaron, and Samuel—who each called upon the Lord and received His answer.

Moses was chosen by God to deliver the Israelites from Egyptian bondage and to lead them into the Promised Land. He served as prophet, lawgiver, and intercessor. The verse highlights that Moses called upon the Lord, and God answered him. Scripture records that Moses spoke with God face to face (Exodus 33:11) and received the Ten Commandments and the laws given at Mount Sinai, underscoring his unique relationship with the Divine.

Aaron, Moses’ brother, was the first high priest of Israel. He performed the priestly duties of offering sacrifices and conducting rituals on behalf of the people. Like Moses, Aaron called upon the Lord, and God answered him. Aaron’s mediating role between God and the nation illustrates the intercessory function of the priesthood, pointing to the importance of faithful representation before God.

Samuel emerged in the transitional period from the era of judges to the monarchy. He served as both prophet and judge, and his calling and anointing are recorded in 1 Samuel. Samuel, too, called upon the Lord, and God answered him. Throughout his life he faithfully communicated God’s messages to the people and interceded for them, embodying the prophetic witness to God’s will.

The verse therefore emphasizes the faithfulness and responsiveness of God to those who earnestly seek Him in prayer and intercession. By recalling God’s reliable answers to Moses, Aaron, and Samuel, the psalmist encourages the people—and today’s readers—to call upon the Lord for guidance, wisdom, and intervention, trusting that He remains ever ready to answer the prayers of His faithful servants.
