Revelation 3:13

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Context

The book of Revelation was written by the apostle John while he was exiled on the island of Patmos. In this verse, John is relaying a message from Jesus to the church in Laodicea, one of the seven churches in Asia Minor mentioned in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. Each message to the churches contains both commendation and admonition, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.

Meaning

“He that hath an ear” emphasises the importance of spiritual discernment and attentiveness. It signifies that the message is not only intended for the church in Laodicea but also for all believers who are willing to listen and apply its teachings. “Let him hear” implies an active response to the message. It encourages believers to pay close attention, understand, and internalise the words being spoken. “What the Spirit saith unto the churches” points to the Holy Spirit speaking to the churches, guiding and instructing them. Application
