Listen to this article

“And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.”

Context and Overview:Revelation 6:4 is part of a vision given to the Apostle John in the book of Revelation. This chapter describes the opening of the first six seals, which reveal various events and judgments that will take place before the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Symbolism of the Red Horse:In this verse, the second seal is opened, and John sees a red horse. The color red often symbolizes war and bloodshed. The horse represents a force or power that is unleashed upon the earth.

Power to Take Peace from the Earth:The rider on the red horse is given the authority to take peace from the earth. This suggests a time of unrest, conflict, and violence. It speaks of a period where people turn against one another, resulting in widespread chaos and bloodshed. This could represent times of war, both physical and spiritual, that arise throughout history.

Killing and Conflict:The purpose of the rider on the red horse is to incite people to kill one another. This speaks to the destructive nature of the power that is unleashed. It represents a breakdown of social order and the rise of violence and aggression among people.

The Great Sword:The rider is given a great sword, symbolizing the weapon of war. This indicates that the violence and killing unleashed by this power will be significant and devastating. It could also represent the influence of ideologies or systems that promote aggression and warfare.

Revelation 6:4 is a vivid depiction of the consequences of human sin and rebellion against God. It highlights the reality of violence, conflict, and suffering that exists in the world. It reminds believers to be aware of the spiritual battle and to stand firm in their faith.

As Christians, we can apply this verse by recognizing the need for peace, pursuing reconciliation, and working towards justice in our relationships and communities. We should also pray for peace and strive to be peacemakers, following the teachings of Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:9).

Furthermore, this verse serves as a reminder that the ultimate resolution of all conflicts and the establishment of true and lasting peace will occur when Jesus returns. It points us to the hope and assurance we have in the future kingdom of God, where all war and violence will cease (Revelation 21:4).

In conclusion, Revelation 6:4 reveals a time of turmoil, conflict, and violence that will take place on the earth. It serves as a call for believers to be vigilant, pursue peace, and look forward to the ultimate peace that will come with the return of Jesus Christ.
