Romans 15:29
And I am sure that when I come vnto you, I shall come in the fulnes of the blessing of þ Gospel of Christ. Romans 15:29 (KJV)
The Book of Romans was penned by the Apostle Paul to the believers in Rome. In this passage Paul expresses his deep affection for the Roman church and his intention to visit them in order to strengthen their faith.
While some note that the exact wording of Romans 15:29 does not appear elsewhere in the epistle, Paul’s longing to see the believers is clearly evident, for example in Romans 1:11‑12 where he writes, “For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift…”.
Key themes emerge from the verse. The gospel of Christ is presented as a source of abundant blessings—hope, salvation, reconciliation with God, forgiveness of sins, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, eternal life, and a transformed relationship with the Creator.
Paul’s confidence in “coming in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel” reveals his trust in God’s provision. He believed that God would equip him with everything necessary to minister effectively, underscoring the importance of relying on divine guidance and strength in our own ministries.
The significance of personal presence is highlighted. Paul valued face‑to‑face interaction as a means of encouragement, teaching, and mutual edification. This reminds believers today of the power of gathering together, fostering fellowship, and building one another up in the faith.
His statement also conveys eager expectation. Paul’s anticipation of the blessings that would accompany his visit encourages believers to adopt a hopeful attitude, expecting God’s work in their lives and in the life of the church, and remaining open to the transformative work of the Holy Spirit.
Application follows naturally. First, embrace the blessings of the gospel by continually receiving forgiveness, grace, and new life offered through Jesus. Second, trust in God’s provision, believing that He will equip you for the purposes He has set. Third, value personal relationships and make intentional efforts toward face‑to‑face fellowship, encouragement, and mutual edification. Finally, cultivate an attitude of expectation, approaching God and fellow believers with hopeful anticipation of His ongoing work.
