Zechariah 2:3

Posted on 18 May at 14:52
Listen to this article

“And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him.”

This verse is part of a vision that the prophet Zechariah received from God. The book of Zechariah is filled with prophetic messages and visions that provide insight into the restoration and future glory of Jerusalem.

In Zechariah 2:1, the prophet sees a man with a measuring line in his hand, indicating that he was measuring Jerusalem. This is symbolic of God’s concern for the city and His plan to rebuild and restore it. In the subsequent verses, the angelic messenger goes on to declare the future expansion and protection of Jerusalem.

In verse 3, we see the angel who was speaking to Zechariah going out, and another angel comes forward to meet him. While the verse itself may seem straightforward, it is important to consider the context of this encounter within the broader vision.

The presence of multiple angels in this vision emphasizes the heavenly involvement in the affairs of earth. It highlights the spiritual dimension at work, with divine messengers delivering God’s messages and carrying out His will.

This verse also underscores the continuity and cooperation between the heavenly messengers. The fact that one angel goes forth while another angel comes to meet him suggests a divine order and coordination. It demonstrates the seamless communication and cooperation among the angelic beings as they fulfill their assigned tasks.

Overall, Zechariah 2:3 is a small glimpse into the larger prophetic vision given to Zechariah, revealing the involvement of angelic beings in God’s plans and the spiritual realm’s active role in the affairs of humanity.

By studying the book of Zechariah as a whole, we gain a deeper understanding of God’s promises, His plan for Jerusalem, and the involvement of heavenly messengers in fulfilling His purposes. It encourages us to recognise that God’s work extends beyond what we can see and comprehend, and that His divine agents are actively at work in carrying out His will.
