1 Chronicles 15:10

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“Of the sons of Uzziel; Amminadab the chief, and his brethren an hundred and twelve.”

Historical Context:First, it’s important to understand the historical context of the verse. The book of 1 Chronicles is part of the Old Testament and provides a detailed genealogical record of the people of Israel, specifically the tribe of Levi and the priests. This chapter focuses on the preparation for bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, under the reign of King David.

The Sons of Uzziel:In this verse, it mentions “the sons of Uzziel.” Uzziel was a descendant of Levi, the third son of Jacob. Uzziel’s lineage is traced through his son Kohath, who was one of the three sons of Levi. The sons of Uzziel mentioned here were the descendants of Kohath.

Amminadab the Chief:Among the descendants of Uzziel, Amminadab is mentioned as the chief. He was one of the prominent leaders among the Levites during King David’s time. The term “chief” indicates that he held a significant position of authority and leadership among his brethren.

Brethren:The verse further mentions “his brethren, a hundred and twelve.” These “brethren” refer to the other descendants of Uzziel, which were part of the priestly and Levitical families. The number “112” could represent a specific group or division within the larger tribe of Uzziel.

Significance:This verse emphasizes the organisation and leadership structure among the Levites during the time of David. It highlights the importance of order and proper arrangements in the service of God, particularly when it came to the transportation and handling of the Ark of the Covenant.

Overall, 1 Chronicles 15:10 highlights the leadership of Amminadab among the descendants of Uzziel, providing a glimpse into the organisation and roles within the Levitical priesthood during the time of David.
