David first conquers the Philistines, taking control of their major cities, including Gath and its surrounding villages. He also defeats the Moabites, who become his subjects and pay tribute to him. Additionally, David triumphs over Hadarezer, the king of Zobah, capturing a thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. David cripples the enemy forces, leaving only enough soldiers to garrison their own cities.
Furthermore, the chapter highlights the spoils of war that David accumulates from his victories. He takes vast amounts of bronze from Hadarezer's cities, which Solomon later uses to build the temple. Additionally, David takes a large amount of gold from the cities of Tibhath and Cun, which are located in Hadarezer's kingdom.
