2 Chronicles 15:4

But when they in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.

2 Chronicles 15:4 (KJV)

This verse belongs to the account of King Asa of Judah. The prophet Azariah, son of Oded, brought a message to Asa and the people, urging them to remain faithful to the Lord. The verse describes a pattern from Israel’s past: when the people faced trouble, they turned back to the Lord God of Israel, sought Him, and He was found by them. This pattern is not random; it shows how distress often drives people to remember God.

The phrase “he was found of them” means that God allowed Himself to be found. He did not hide from His people; He responded to their earnest seeking. The verse teaches that trouble can drive people to God, and when they genuinely seek Him, He is ready to help and deliver them. God’s willingness to be found is a sign of His grace and faithfulness, not a reward for human effort.

This pattern appears throughout the book of Judges, where Israel cried out to God in their oppression and He raised up deliverers. It also echoes the promise in Jeremiah 29:13 that those who search for God with all their heart will find Him. These connections show that God consistently rewards sincere repentance and prayer. The same truth appears in Hebrews 11:6, where God is described as a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Believers today can follow Judah’s example by turning to the Lord in times of distress rather than relying on their own strength. This means confessing sin, praying earnestly, and seeking God’s guidance and comfort. The verse assures us that God is always available to those who seek Him with sincerity and devotion. When trouble comes, we can choose to make God our first refuge, not our last resort.

Consider your own response to trouble. Do you turn to God first, or do you try to solve problems alone? This verse invites you to trust in God’s faithfulness, knowing that He will be found by those who seek Him wholeheartedly. Take confidence in His unfailing love and His promise to respond to sincere seeking. Let this truth encourage you to seek Him now, even before trials arise.
