2 Chronicles 27:1

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

Iotham was twenty and fiue yeeres olde, when hee began to reigne, and hee reigned sixteene yeeres in Ierusalem: his mothers name also was Ierushah, the daughter of Zadok. 2 Chronicles 27:1 (KJV)

Historical Context: 2 Chronicles is a book in the Old Testament that focuses on the history of the kings of Judah, the southern kingdom of Israel. This verse specifically mentions Jotham, who was the son of Uzziah and the tenth king of Judah. Jotham reigned after his father, Uzziah, became leprous and was forced to live in isolation until his death.

Jotham’s Age and Reign: The verse states that Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign. This information highlights the relatively young age at which Jotham assumed the throne. Despite his youth, Jotham’s reign lasted for sixteen years in Jerusalem. This indicates that he ruled effectively and led the kingdom with wisdom.

Jotham’s Mother: The verse also mentions Jotham’s mother, whose name was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok. While the Bible does not provide extensive details about Jerushah, her inclusion in this verse suggests that she had a significant role in the life of Jotham. Her ancestry, being the daughter of Zadok, might indicate a connection to the priestly line.

Jotham’s Age and Reign: The verse states that Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign. Jotham’s Mother: The verse also mentions Jotham’s mother, whose name was Jerushah. She was the daughter of Zadok.
