2 Chronicles 21 focuses on the reign of Jehoram, who becomes king of Judah after the death of his father, King Jehoshaphat. Unfortunately, Jehoram does not follow in his father's footsteps and turns away from the Lord. He marries into the wicked family of Ahab, the king of Israel, and leads Judah into idolatry.
Jehoram's reign is marked by turmoil and divine judgment. He kills his brothers and other leaders in Judah to solidify his power. As a result of his wickedness, the Lord sends a letter through the prophet Elijah, denouncing Jehoram and predicting a severe punishment. The punishment is fulfilled as the Edomites, led by their king, revolt against Judah and destroy its cities. Additionally, Jehoram suffers from a severe disease in his bowels, which eventually leads to his death.
The chapter ends with Jehoram's son, Ahaziah, succeeding him as king. Ahaziah follows in his father's footsteps and continues to lead Judah astray.
