2 Kings Chapter 10

2 Kings 10 (KJV) Summary:

In 2 Kings 10, Jehu, who was anointed as king by the prophet Elisha, takes drastic measures to eliminate the descendants of Ahab and Baal worshipers in Israel. Jehu sends a letter to the officials of Samaria, ordering them to select the most worthy and capable son of Ahab to be the next ruler. The officials, fearful of Jehu, obey his command and execute seventy sons of Ahab, presenting their heads in baskets to Jehu. Jehu then proceeds to kill all the remaining relatives of Ahab, as well as the priests and worshipers of Baal.

Jehu cunningly gathers all the worshipers of Baal in a temple, pretending to offer a great sacrifice to the god. Once inside, he orders his soldiers to slaughter all the people, destroying the temple and leaving it in ruins. Jehu's actions are praised for his zeal in purging Israel of idolatry.

However, despite his fervor for eradicating idol worship, Jehu does not follow the commandments of the Lord with a true heart. He continues to tolerate the golden calves in Bethel and Dan, which become stumbling blocks for the people of Israel.
