2 Samuel Chapter 20

Summery

In 2 Samuel 20, a man named Sheba rebels against King David and gathers support from the tribes of Israel. Sensing the potential danger, David appoints his commander, Amasa, to gather the troops and confront Sheba. However, Amasa takes longer than expected, giving David's former commander, Joab, an opportunity to step in and take matters into his own hands.

Joab assembles his own troops, including the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and pursues Sheba. As they approach the city of Abel Beth Maachah, they lay siege to it. A wise woman from the city negotiates with Joab, convincing him to spare the city from destruction by handing over Sheba.

The woman returns to her people and they execute Sheba, throwing his head over the wall to Joab. With the rebellion quelled, Joab blows the trumpet, and his troops disperse, each returning to their homes. Joab then goes back to Jerusalem to rejoin David.
